Catalog Description:
A study of the QWERTY keyboard, the mechanics of the typewriter/microcomputer,
forms, and business letters.
Course Objective:

Method of Instruction:
Lecture and hands-on practice
Course Requirements:
1. Satisfactory completion of assigned lessons, and Number
Keypad Exercises
2. Meet
minimum speed requirements on three 3-minute timed writings
3. Satisfactory
completion of objective and production tests
Type by touch using correct technique
Grading: Satisfactory completion of
course requirements and instructor evaluation.
Timed Writings 20%
Grading standards for three-minute timed writings with four or fewer errors:
A=37 B=32-36 C=27-31 D=22-26
Completion of assignments,
teacher evaluation, technique 20%
The student
MUST type by touch using correct technique to receive this percentage of
of the grade.
Production Exams 30%
Written Exams 30%
A(90-100), B(80-89), C(70-79), D(60-69), F(below60)
Policy on Make-up Exams:
Students must take tests as scheduled.
The final exam will be substituted for one exam
missed for a valid reason.
College Attendance Policy:
Students who are absent from class more than one eighth of a course without the
instructor’s permission shall be withdrawn. Please consult with class
instructors for
specific class attendance and grading policies.

Computers are available for student use in rooms BS 103, BS 105, BS 106, and BS
204. There is no charge for the use of

on each room door shortly after the beginning of the semester.

assist all
students enrolled in computer courses.

The data disk used in this course is compatible with Word 2000 only. Do not
use the
course data disk with other word processing software. After you have logged on
the
Glencoe typing program in the computer labs, make a backup of your data disk.
Continue making a backup on a regular basis.
Beginning with lesson 21 certain portions of the lessons must be completed
using
Microsoft Word 2000.

Grading Procedures:
1. All
tests and lessons must be taken in sequenceafter
satisfactory completion of
lessons. TESTS MUST BE TAKEN ON THE DUTE DATE.
2. Grading scale for General Information Tests--objective tests covering text,
informational material, and workguides--will be a
percentage grade based on 100%.
3. Grading scale for Production Exams--practical test of typing skill
covering material
in lessons will be as follows:
-3 points: major errors such as margins, centering directions
-2 points: minor errors such as indentations, spacing, typographical errors
-1 point: typographical errors
A=0-1 error B=2 errors C=3-5 errors D=6-7 errors
Tests:
Tests consists of two types
General Information, written objectives test
Production Test, a typewritten skills test
Timed Writings
Policy on Make-up Exams:
Students must take tests as scheduled.
Make-up exams for excused absences should
be arranged with the instructor.
Course Requirements:
1. Satisfactory completion of assignments
2. Meet minimum speed requirements on three, three-minute
timed writings
3. Satisfactory completion of Production Tests and
General Information Tests
4. Satisfactory completion of final exam
5. Type by touch using correct technique
College Attendance Policy:
To achieve best results you must be present each class period. Roll will be
taken
every class period. Absences of more than six class hours may result in
automatic
withdrawal from class with a "W" grade if before midterm or either a
"W" or "F" if one
week after mid-term. Three tardies will be counted as
one absence.
Notes:
This course is designated as an associate of science, non-transfer course;
however,
some universities will accept this credit. Check with your academic advisor for
more
information.
