| COP2120 CATALOG DESCRIPTION TEXT, SUPPLIES, E-MAIL ACCOUNT Two or more 3 ½" double-sided,
high-density diskettes with external (stick-on) labels Each
student must obtain an e-mail account. If the student does not have access
to an off-campus account, the student may obtain an email account through
a free Internet service, such as YAHOO or HotMail. COURSE OBJECTIVES
The
student should be able to demonstrate an understanding of his/her ability to
solve programming problems using the COBOL language. This includes flowcharting the problem, coding the COBOL
source program, compiling the program and testing/debugging the program using
sample input. The
student should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the divisions within a
COBOL program and their purpose. The
student should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the file-record-field
structures and their relationship to each other. METHOD OF INSTRUCTION GRADING POLICY ON MAKE-UP EXAMS COURSE REQUIREMENTS Homework assignments are due at the beginning
of the class. Late homework will not be accepted. Each student is expected to do
his/her own work. Helping one another is allowed, but direct copying of
assignments is cheating. Every student is expected to enter his or her own
keystrokes. ATTENDANCE
Roll will be taken each class period. Students who are absent from class more than one-eighth of a course (six class hours) without the instructor's permission shall be withdrawn. If you are having difficulty with the class assignments, please contact your
instructor during office hours. Considerable time outside of class will be
required to complete course assignments. You should allow an average of 2 hours
outside of class for every 1 hour in class to complete assignments. If you do
not have access to a computer off campus, computers are available for student
use in rooms BS 103, BS 105, BS 106, and BS 204. There is no charge for the use
of these rooms. Open lab schedules will be posted on each room door. The Success Center also has computers available for student use. In addition, Kerry Merritt, the Business Division Lab Assistant, is here to assist all students enrolled in computer courses. His office is located in room BS 103B.
