QMB 2100 BUSINESS AND ECONOMIC STATISTICS

Pre-Requisite:           Minimum grade of  “C” in MAT 1033

Textbook:                  A First Course in Business Statistics, (2th Edition) by Levine, Krehbiel, and Berenson; Prentice-Hall Publishing

Catalog Description:
   
                                 Topics include statistics in business decision-making; statistical data; averages,
                                    dispersion and skewness; probability; probability distributions; survey sampling;
                                    tests of significance parametric methods and nonparametric methods; simple linear
                                    regression and correlation.

Course Objective:
   
                                 1.    Understanding statistics
                                    2.         Data arrangement and presentation
                                    3.         Measures of central location
                                    4.         Measures of variation
                                    5.         Probability
                                    6.         Probability distributions: Discrete
                                    7.         Probability distributions: Continuous
                                    8.         Sampling and sampling distributions
                                    9.         Estimation
                                    10.     Hypothesis testing
                                    11.      Simple regression and correlation analysis

Method of Instruction
:
   
                                 Lectures and interactive participation by the student in the resolution of problems
                                    and exercises.

Grading:                     A(90-100),  B(80-89),  C(70-79),  D(60-69),  F(below 60).  Grade consists of four exams of 100 points each and practice problems worth 100 points.

Policy on Make-up Exams:
   
                                 Students must take tests as scheduled.  Make-up exams for excused absences
                                    should be arranged with the instructor.

                                 Students who are absent from class more than one eighth of a course without the
                                    instructor’s permission shall be withdrawn. Please consult with class instructors for
                                    specific class attendance and grading policies.

Notes:                         Programmable calculators and computers may not be used on examinations.
